Last week The Brixton Society was out in force for Open Garden Squares Weekend 2011. On Saturday Windrush Square was taken over by local plant nurseries and other community groups for our theme of 'growth in Brixton'. The day was a fantastic success with people stopping by all day to see what was going on.
It was one of the Society's most successful stall days, with lots of money raised for future activity through postcard and book sales. We also attracted a few new members to the society and we look forward to seeing them again soon.
We received Lottery funding to be able to publicise and facilitate the event, with two large marquees being set up on Sunday for a day of arts and crafts from local artists. Unfortunately the weather was not with us on that day but it was a great chance for people to come together and get to know each other over a hot cup of tea!
Our next appearance will be at the Lambeth Country Show, on July 16th and 17th.
