Suffolk House, Rushcroft Road

Posted on: 20th January, 2013 in Planning

Our original article in mid-December flagged up this application for a mansard roof extension on Suffolk House, Rushcroft Road. Lambeth Planning have refused permission in a decision notice dated 15th January 2013. Reasons: The proposed installation of a mansard roof and front roof lights together with the removal of the chimneys would be an incongruous development that would be detrimental to the character of the host building, undermine the uniformity of the group of buildings and fail to preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the Brixton Conservation Area. The proposed flats would, by reason of the failure to meet the Council’s standards for minimum floor area for 2-bedroom units units, fail to provide adequate living accommodation contrary to Policy 3.5 of the London Plan (2011).
