Not everybody in Lambeth realises that the Borough has its own river. For about the last 120 years it has been flowing mainly underground but before Lambeth became built-up, the Effra used to run as an open stream. It is the purpose of this little book to tell you something about the river. Not a lot is known about it but we will try to give you the unvarnished truth!
