Ken Dixon Award

Ken Dixon Memorial Award

This Award is offered by the Brixton Society in memory of its former Archivist and prolific author, Ken Dixon. It is intended to encourage schools and other educational institutions in the Brixton area to have their work in local history and other local studies published by the Brixton Society.

Eligibility: all schools and other educational institutions within, or taking significant catchment from, the Brixton Society area, and individual students in tertiary education who either attend an educational institution within the Society area or who normally live within the Society area.

Entries: must be substantially about life and work, today or in the past, in the Brixton Society area. The length may be from a small pamphlet (say twelve hundred words) up to a substantial book (say twenty thousand words). Manuscripts must be typed or, preferably, on 3¼ inch floppy discs using any common DOS word processor. Drawings, maps and pictures may be included.

Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form (see next page). Copyright of award-winning entries will vest in the Brixton Society. Submission of an entry implies acceptance of all the rules of the award as set out here.

Awards: The Brixton Society will make cash awards in the range £20 to £100 to entries which the Society judges to be good enough to publish. The amount of the award will depend upon the length of publication. The Society may make more than one award in any one year and reserves the right not to make any award in any one year. In addition, the winners will see their work published in a quality manner and on sale at events such as the Lambeth Country Show. All costs of publication will be met by the Society. The authors and editors will also receive free copies of the publication together with a certificate from the Society.
