PLANNING APPLICATIONS

at the Society’s Committee meeting of 11 March 2004

Other pressures prevented the production of a new list of planning applications, but the Committee was pleased to hear from the Secretary that he had received thanks for earlier efforts by the Society.

The Society had supported the Hayter Road residents' group in their objection to the replacement of two large Victorian houses. The residents were successful in persuading Lambeth's Planning Committee to reject the proposal.

Thanks were also received for help in successfully objecting to a proposed mobile phone mast in Lansdowne Way near Stockwell bus garage.

Most minor projects, advertising or tree works are not listed.

L – date of letter from Planning Dept., W – published on weekly list of applications.

Cases where support requested:

Dorchester Court, Herne Hill SE24: Peter Whitworth drew attention to proposed replacement of estate boiler house by new housing and urged us to object. NB – this is on Herne Hill Society’s patch.

Effra School site, SW2: recent news from residents’ group is that Public Inquiry into Goldcrest Homes’ appeal will be in April.  In meantime applications have come in for phased rebuilding of adjoining Nursery School (seems OK) and for minor changes to the Nature Garden at other end of site, to allow continued access during redevelopment of main school site.

Hayter Road, SW2:  residents’ group seeking our support in objecting to replacement of 2 large Victorian houses by lumpen flats.

Sulina Road/ New Park Road, SW2: I have been supporting residents and the Streatham Society in resisting over-sized development proposals on the South Circular Road (Streatham Place) which would overshadow the early 19th Century cottages.  News just received that Brashier’s Cottage has been listed.  Public Inquiry resumes 2nd-4th February (this week).

Also a couple of queries about the scope of Rush Common restrictions, in connection with proposals to extend/ improve the Marie Stopes Clinic at corner of Brixton Hill and Arodene Road, SW2.
