DESCRIPTION:A 90 minute walk around Brixton Market. The tour shows how shopping grew from nothing to make Brixton South London’s biggest shopping centre by the 1920s. The development of shopping was one of the key elements in the development of Brixton and a vital part of its history. DESCRIPTION:RAILTON ROAD: LIFELINE OF BRIXTON AND BEYOND \nA Brixton Society talk by Nikky Catto\, based on research and first hand accounts from people who have lived and worked on and around Railton Road over the last 70 years. \nOur speaker for this Brixton Society talk about Railton Road is Nikky Catto. Nikky grew up in Belfast and planned to move to London for year. She fell in love with Lambeth instantly and has lived here for 25 years.  She is a former Chair of Brixton Advice Centre which brought about her interest in exploring the history of Railton Road. She also a qualified Lambeth Tour Guide\, a writer and runs the popular Instagram account @southlondontoday. \nJoin us and Nikky\, at Brixton Library\,  as she shares stories of one of the most influential and interesting roads in London in an evening part family album\, part social history. \nCome and share your stories and memories of Railton Road too. \nRefreshments from 6.15pm.
