DESCRIPTION:A 90 minute walk around Brixton Market. The tour shows how shopping grew from nothing to make Brixton South London’s biggest shopping centre by the 1920s. The development of shopping was one of the key elements in the development of Brixton and a vital part of its history. We explore this development as we walk through the various markets and shopping areas. meeting point and walk details will be sent by e-mail to ticket holders before the walk. \n\n\n\nCost £5 per adult. Find out more about the emergence of the neighbourhood. What was here before the streets and green spaces were laid out; how the area has changed over more than 250 years; key people that have played a role including many women. The pubs\, library\, Longfield Hall and Myatt’s Field Park and more will all be featured. \nOne of the programme of Brixton Society walks throughout the year. The walks are all free.
